Here’s how it works in a nutshell…
You and four other pilots purchase a share of a single aircraft. You own your share for a four year period, during which we manage the aircraft for you. At the end of four years you can either extend the ownership period for an additional three years, or end your contract. If you decide to end the contract, we’ll sell your share and return to you your portion of the equity in the aircraft, minus a standard sales brokerage fee of 5%.
The contract contains provisions for early termination (prior to the end of the full four year term), so you’re never locked in to ownership if your plans should change.
Unlike renting or fractional ownership, your airplane is only flown by yourself and 4 other pilots. All the owners are pre-screened and then qualified to fly your shared aircraft.
There are no limits on the total number of hours you may fly each year. You can schedule your airplane months or years in advance for extended trips of up to a week (or longer with the concurrence of other owners).
During the length of the contract, you pay a monthly management fee of approximately $450 per month (which may vary slightly depending upon your aircraft location). This amount includes:
60 hours of flight time per year (unlimited additional hours charged at $28 per hour dry)
Tie down expenses
Aircraft insurance
Garmin G1000 database updates (to maintain aircraft’s IFR current status)
All scheduled and most unscheduled maintenance
Oil changes and required inspections
Online and telephone based scheduling system
Other aircraft management functions, such as aircraft record keeping, insurance claim processing, etc.
You always know what your costs will be ahead of time (no maintenance surprises to worry about), and you never have to hassle with all the little ownership details that can eat up your time and detract from your enjoyment of the airplane.
As an owner, you are responsible for purchasing the fuel you use. And, should the FAA issue an Airworthiness Directive for your airplane, you and the other co-owners are responsible for the cost of compliance (just as you would be if you were a sole owner). At the present time, there are no known or expected ADs on the Diamond Star.
You don't need to recruit four other pilots to help you justify your purchase. You don’t have to spend hundreds of hours searching for the right airplane, or worrying about unexpected maintenance bills. You don’t need to figure out how to get everyone to agree on scheduling issues, or be concerned about personality conflicts with partners who don't see things the same way you do.
The truth is, there are all kinds of hurdles that keep pilots from becoming aircraft owners. They run the gamut from fear of jeopardizing existing friendships in the case of partnerships, to concern about the high buy-in cost of sole ownership.
But the issues that normally drive owners crazy are not even a blip on the radar screen when you own a share in a brand new Diamond Star! We’ve thought about everything aircraft owners have to deal with, and we’ve taken care of all the details for you.
Literally all you need to do is put fuel in the airplane and figure out where your next flight will take you.
